Since February, the Mardi Gras Service Corps has worked with more than 2,000 volunteers to gut houses, clean up neighborhoods, paint public schools and more. This month they launch a new Family Match program: displaced families are assigned a small team of volunteers to help with the physical and logistical challenges of returning to New Orleans. Based at the Ashe Cultural Center in Central City, Mardi Gras Service Corps treats culture as an integral part of rebuilding. Its volunteers are steeped in the history and traditions of the places and people they help. Felix Wai tells us more:
