The return of the film industry to New Orleans

In the aftermath of Katrina, the growing film industry of New Orleans suffered some set backs. Many prospective productions relocated from New Orleans to places like Shreveport and out of state. A year later and at the close of a much calmer hurricane season, the film industry is gearing up again. WWOZ DJ and Street Talk reporter George Ingmire spoke with several people involved in the return of films to the area. For additional digital filmmaking training options, the New Orleans Video Access Center (NOVAC) offers the Digital Filmmaking Institute. Up to two affordable, hands-on workshops in lighting, sound, camera and editing techniques will be offered each month. Classes take place within a variety of settings including LIFT Productions offices. Classes range in cost from $30 to $300.
